At New Directions for Women we believe that true recovery begins when you heal the mind, body, and spirit. At our drug addiction treatment center we use a holistic approach to treatment that is drenched in the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. We help people find lifelong recovery without the assistance of medication.
Another activity that our patients participate in is regular physical activity. Physical activity serves as a way to elevate mood. Some people can experience depression or sadness when entering into residential treatment. Through the usage of physical activity, endorphins are released into the brain which acts as a natural mood booster. Some physical activities include yoga, walks by the Newport Beach Back Bay Nature Preserve, and kayaking. In addition, our chef Glenda makes healthy and home cooked meals using vegetables and herbs grown in our gardens by our patients.
Women who are engaged in holistic treatment at New Directions will participate in mindfulness meditation. This type of therapy teaches women techniques to have more self-awareness and the ability to experience the present moment. A clinician helps our patients to identify triggers to their addiction and provides them with the coping skills necessary for stressful situations. The use of mindfulness meditation equips our patients with the techniques needed to help them in their lifelong recovery.
We believe that the healing of the spirit occurs in the right place at the right time. This journey of healing is not the same for everyone. For some, they may find that their spirit is healed at a Drum Circle session led by spiritual leader Sparrow or perhaps a woman might experience a spiritual awakening. Or, you may experience a spiritual moment while gardening in our rose garden. The journey to spirituality is different for each person. True recovery is up to you and it’s waiting for you at New Directions. Let us guide you.
