Tom Hanks' Son Living a Life of SobrietyChester Hanks, son of actor Tom Hanks, revealed in a social media post his struggle with the disease of addiction. In a candid post on Instagram, Chester ‘Chet’ Hanks said that he had been in a residential rehab facility to treat his addiction. At the time of the posting, Hanks had been 50 days sober. He now lives a life free from dependency to cocaine and alcohol.

The 24 year old had this to say about his dependency,

“I’ve been struggling with substance abuse since I was 16 years old. Finally at the age of 24 I decided to get some help. With 50 days of sobriety under my belt, I can honestly say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I’m thankful for my family and everybody that cares about me, including my fans. I’ve been blessed with the programs of AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and NA (Narcotics Anonymous) which allow me to rise above this disease. I’m learning to accept my faults and be OK with being human.”

The disease of addiction does not discriminate. We wish Hanks success in his journey towards lifelong sobriety. New Directions for Women hopes to bring awareness to the disease of addiction and how it affects persons regardless of age, gender, wealth, or ethnicity.
