Oliver ‘Oli’ Sykes, lead singer of Bring Me the Horizon, opened up to the public about his battle with chemical dependency. In an acceptance speech for Album of the Year at the APMA awards, Sykes thanked his fans for their support while he entered into recovery.
In his speech he discussed his past prior to the release of hit album Sempiternal. Sykes admitted that his addiction to ketamine spanned for many years.
Then 27 year old singer lamented that both his friends and family were angry with him but it was his fans that supported him. Sykes also told the crowd that he entered into a rehabilitation facility for 30 days of treatment. “A couple of years ago I was a …worthless drug addict, and you guys saved my life. So thank you very much!” During his time in residential treatment, Sykes received an outpouring of letters and messages from fans who reside in countries all around the globe.
Sykes band, Bring Me the Horizon, is a rock band from England. Their debut album Count Your Blessings debuted in the United Kingdom in October of 2006. The band is currently in the process of writing a new album for future release.
