New Jersey has continued their fight against drug addiction in the state by revoking the license of Dr. Ali G. Mansour. According to a press release from the New Jersey Attorney General’s office, the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners have dissolved Mansour’s license after accusations of over prescription of narcotics. The Attorney General believes that this sort of behavior puts patients at risk for addiction to prescription medication.
The state has ordered Mansour to pay $100,000 in civil penalties and $50,000 for costs incurred from state investigation and attorney fees.
Attorney General John J. Hoffman said in a press release that the, “doctor continued to make large quantities of narcotic painkillers available to patients, despite evidence of apparent [chemical dependency.] This is a violation of his oath to do no harm, and his obligation to help patients who show signs of addiction. The board of Medical Examiners took the right action in revoking his license.”
The state of New Jersey says that Mansour is accused of prescribing medication to patients that did not have symptoms that required treatment. The doctor is also accused of assigning medication to persons who tested positive for heroin and cocaine.
The press release states that Mansour will be able to reapply for his medical license but will not be able to prescribe controlled dangerous substances (CDS) in New Jersey.
